The first important fencing competition after the end of championship in Turin, it took place in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Friuli Venezia Giulia, the region where was born and has grown up into the foil champion of the world Margherita Granbassi. From Friday 13 October till Sunday 15 October Lignano Sabbiadoro, by now becomes one of the capitals for the italian fencing, and in fact there will be hold the first trial of the Italian Championship of Cadets (under 18 years old) by 6 arms.
As it always happens in the juvenile competitions, the participation has been “enormous' ' with 919 athletes who have competed with each other in the splendid sport construction of friulian bathing locality, where during this summer took place the preparation for the world championship of the italian national team. The most massive participation, as always, in the sword, with 253 signed male and 199 feminine athletes. The big quantity is also by male foilers (161), male sabreurs (126), female foilers (115) and female sabreurs (65).
Organized by the Gemina Fencing Society of Saint George di Nogaro, the manifestation has begun on 13th October and ended on Sunday with male foiler’s and female sabreur’s competitions. The first trial of cadets was not just a significant event by itself but also a kind of general test for the World’s Cup of female sword under 20. Next competitions will take place in Lignano by the Ge.Tur sportcomplex on 19th November 2006. |
